Founded in 1986 by Artistic Director Kitty Seale, the Alabama Dance Theatre (ADT) is a progressive, world class company born of local talent. The company with studios at the Armory Learning Arts Center, emphasizes serious ballet training for the pre-professional dancer.
ADT places its dancers in professsional dance environments each summer. Through national audition tours ADT dancers receive acceptance and/or scholarships to schools of national prominence.
These include the Joffrey, the Boston, the Pennsylvania, the Louisville, the Charlotte and the Houston Ballets, as well as American Ballet Theatre, the School of American Ballet and Ballet West.
ADT has an extensive outreach program that is designed to benefit everyone in the community who wants to attend a ballet, learn about ballet, or pursue a study in ballet. ADT also has the distinction of representing Montgomery and the State of Alabama as an Honor Company in RDA/SERBA (Regional Dance America/Southeastern Regional Ballet Association) since 1992. ADT has co-hosted the 2009, 2011, and 2014 RDA/SERBA festivals in Montgomery, AL and will host again in 2018.
