The Alabama Dance offers classes in classical ballet (age 3 to professional level), modern, jazz, hip-hop and tap. The goal of Alabama Dance Theatre is to maintain a high level of excellence in classical ballet training. ADT is a school recognized throughout the Southeast as a positive training ground for dancers.
Three, four and five year olds take Pre-Ballet. These classes are designed to improve motor skills, to teach the relationship of movement to music and to instill an early love of dance through creative movement. First and second graders are enrolled in Beginning Ballet. These classes reinforce skills learned in Pre-Ballet and introduce techniques used in later training.
Older children (third grade and up) are placed in ballet classes by age, ability and experience. Serious classical ballet training, stressing correct placement and technique is offered at these levels. More frequent classes are required as a student progresses. Pointe classes are added when a dancer has obtained the strength and technical proficiency required.
As dance is a performance art, a school recital for all students is offered. Dancers who have begun pointe are eligible to audition for company membership thus providing further performance opportunities.
Registrations for fall classes begin Mid-July and are accepted during August. Class sizes are limited.
After-school and evening classes are scheduled Monday-Thursday during the school year. The Alabama Dance Theatre School Recital will be performed in May at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center.
