A collaboration between the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts and The Alabama Dance Theatre
For this program, the MMFA sees all Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) Kindergartners as well as offering two days of shows that are open to the public. This program reaches approximately 3,600 students and visitors.
The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts wants to bring the jewels of its collection to life! Selected works will be enlivened in front of students through the use of interpretive materials and narrative dance movements, presented by the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts and the Alabama Dance Theatre.
The core of this program, which begins in the classroom with a visit from a Museum docent before the field trip and ends in the MMFA's permanent galleries, is focused on movement (both implied movement in the artwork and the actual movement of dancers) and Language Arts standards, which include critical thinking skills such as determining elements of a story and completing a narrative. The MMFA and the Alabama Dance Theatre believe this is program will offer students a unique experience by combining the physical movement of dance, perceived movement in art, and the language arts in a new and innovative way.
